So I guess it’s no secret how much I love Ann Perkins and everything she chooses to be so listen up, Ann Perkins is brilliant. First of all, I honestly think Ann deserves to be loved as an individual rather than for her relationship with Leslie. I don’t mean you shouldn’t appreciate their friendship and I certainly don’t mean to demonize it because it’s amazing and I adore how much they adore each other but really, I just don’t like the idea of Ann being tolerated because she’s best friends with Leslie. Ann Perkins is so much more than that and you should realize that there’s a reason Leslie loves her so much. There are a lot of colourful characters in Pawnee. Many with those eccentricities you want to relate to because you didn’t think these oddities occurred to anybody else but you. Then there are those characters that are grounded, loyal and just very… Familiar? And Ann Perkins is one of them. I personally relate to her on a very basic level. She’s got a little bit of that oddness that people seem to love, she’s a little bit quirky, a little bit mean, a little bit awkward, a little bit weird etc. but she’s a lot of those qualities that people don’t seem to find interesting, she’s very kind, very loyal, very agreeable, very much living her life. I find this to be the reason most people overlook Ann or even come to dislike her. It’s so easy not to like someone that doesn’t have a specific “hook” going for them, the ones that anchor everyone down, sort of like the roots of a plant. We take her for granted because she doesn’t necessarily stand out but I find that if you look for those moments where Ann is more open (like when she’s with Leslie or even Tom), you’ll see that she’s fun and loving and awesome. Even when she’s just being plain ol’ beautiful beautiful Ann, she’s still the most beautiful nurse in the world. She’s someone I’d love to be friends with in real life. She’d beat someone up with a baseball bat if they messed with you, she’d take care of you when you had the flu, she’d take you out and pretend to be your date to stave off your nerves, she’d let you sleep on her couch for as long as you wanted after you stayed awake for a full 48 hours and she’d let you raid her closet to find an outfit to wear on your road trip with a guy she totally wants you to get together with. Come on! How great is Ann Perkins?
